Budding

Definition Budding – a type of grafting in which the scion is reduced to a single bud with a thin shield of bark and wood.

Advantages Budding is fast
Budding makes maximum use of the scion wood (efficiency).

Method (in general) Bud is inserted into the understock.
Just like grafting – we have to line up the cambium! The understock is later removed and a new top developed from the bud.

Requires the bark to be “slipping” Chip budding Does not require the bark to be “slipping”
