Warm – Up!! Good Morning!! As you walk in, please pick up your calculator! Add or Subtract the following polynomials: (x + 3) - ( 3x – 14) (x2 + 4x -82) + (2x2 +15) Classify the polynomial and degree for the following: x3y2 x + 13 x2 + 3x – 15

Multiplying Polynomials
There are multiple ways to multiply polynomials including FOIL and the box method. Today we will be looking at the first way: the BOX method. This way will ALWAYS work!
4
Steps to the Box Method 1. Draw a box – this will depend on the type of polynomials. (2 x 2 for 2 binomials, 2 x 3 for binomial and trinomial, and 3 x 3 for 2 trinomials) 2. Write a polynomial on the top and side of the box. (It does NOT matter which binomial or trinomial goes on the top or side.) 3. Multiply each of the corresponding boxes. 4. Write out each term in your boxes. 5. Lastly, simplify or combine like terms if needed!
5
Example 1: Multiply (3x – 5) (5x + 2)
6
Example 2: Multiply (7p – 2) (3p – 4)
7
Example 3: Multiply (2x – 5)(x2 – 5x +4)
8
Example 4: Multiply (x2 + 3x – 7) (4x2 – 2x +1)
9
You Try!! Multiply the following polynomials! These are in your guided note! Multiply (5x – 4) (2x + 4) Multiply (8w + 3) (7w – 6) Multiply (4z – 2) (3z + 9) Multiply (2x – 7)(2x2 – 5x +10) Multiply (x2 – 4x – 2) (x2 + 3x – 4)
