1. What is a comet? 1.A comet is a small body of ice, rock, and cosmic dust.

3. What are the parts of a comet? -Nucleus -solid center of a comet -Coma-gases that spread from the nucleus -Head-nucleus and the coma -Tail-melted water, bits of rock, and dust behind the coma.

A comets’ tail forms when the comet passes Jupiter and gets closer to the sun Comets have elongated elliptical orbits. ---- *Some orbits take comets plunging into the sun. *Other comets make one trip and never return. *Some comets make many trips after a few or many years.
