2.  2001 -first human genome draft.  July 2 nd, 2001- AbioCor, an artificial heart(founded in 1987), was approved by the FDA.  February 12 th, 2008 -human skin cells reprogrammed into embryonic stem cells.  2011- the “bio-printer” scans the dimensions of patient’s wounds. Capable of growing arteries, the “bio-printer” will hopefully be able to grow more complex organs such as hearts, teeth and bone.  In the 21 st century, women have become more well-known in the medical and scientific communities.

4.  A great increase in RNs in the United States has resulted in approx. 2.9 million RNs in the U.S.  While the demand for nurses increases, it outnumbers the supply of RNs.  The medical profession will always have a high demand for workers.

5.  The main religion in the 21 st century is Catholicism, but a large amount of other religions reside in the U.S.  People’s religious views may affect their behavior with people in the medical field through how they interact with doctors and other medical staff members.

6.  Born in Germany  Kathrin worked on the X-inactivation process in female mammalian cells at the University of California.  Kathrin, and UCLA stem cell scientists, reprogrammed skin cells into cells almost identical to embryonic stem cells without the use of embryos or eggs.
