Most days we ate chopped up chapatti with beans called chikamando which was all we could afford in the morning for breakfast we would have a cup of warm tea some maize or millet porridge most of the time we ate twice a day but some days we did not eat at all so that we were very tired for work the next day We would just go hungry if there wasnt enough money for food but we didnt beg as I dont like begging its better to work for your food even if its hard work

As there were four of us we would work together and share what we had we made a little money by searching around and collecting scrap metal for recycling as well as plastic jerry cans and old basins we found these on the dirty rubbish tips where we would search long and hard for them most days there were many rubbish dumps some big and some small but all hot and smelly We shared food between us and worked together so we also shared the money to buy food we bought food from very small cafes as the food there is very cheap these are called street-food sellers we ate chikamando rice and beans or posho maize meal
