2 Comma: a punctuation mark (,) indicating a pause between parts of a sentence it is also used to separate items in a list Subject: a person or thing of the sentence that does the main action Predicates: what the subject does (the action)

3 Subjects Mr. Morton is an example of a subject. Mr. Morton, a lonely man, is blushing over a girl. Ms. Hargett ate a cheeseburger. Ms. Strader was very exited for her daughter.

4 Predicates Blushing is the predicate. Mr. Morton, a lonely man, was blushing over a girl. The cat chased the mouse.

5 Commas Mr. Morton a lonely man was blushing over a girl. Mr. Morton, a lonely man, was blushing over a girl. The very fat cat, Ragetti, ate WAY to much food. Ragetti (subject) spins (predicate) very slow because he is so fat.

7 Question number ONE!!! What word in the sentence is an example of a subject? The moose in the woods had very large antlers!

8 Answer The moose in the woods had large antlers. The moose is the Subject because the subject is who, what, or where of the sentence.

9 Question number TWO!!! What word in this sentence is an example of a predicate? Dr. Turner teaches the class about grammar.

10 Answer Dr. Turner teaches the class about grammar. Teaches is the predicate because Dr. Turner is the subject and the predicate is what the subject does and Dr. Turner teaches.

11 Question number THREE!!! Where can commas be placed in this sentence? We need milk eggs bread and cereal bars from the grocery store.

12 Answer We need milk, eggs, bread, and cereal bars from the grocery store. This is a list and you need commas in between items on a list.

13 Question number FOUR!!! What is the predicate in this sentence? The cat meows and scratches the door.

14 Answer The cat meows and scratches the door. Meows and scratches the door is the predicate because the subject is the cat and the predicate is what the subject is doing.

15 Question number FIVE!!! Identify the subject in this sentence. Sadie is very hyper and soft.

16 Answer Sadie is very hyper and soft. Sadie is the subject because subjects are who, what, or where’s.

17 Question number SIX!!! Where do the commas go in this sentence? I am sleepy but I have to go to work.

18 Answer I am sleepy, but I have to go to work. Commas can also go in a sentence so it is not a run on sentence. Usually you put a comma before a conjunction.
