I Believe this to be the a more fair explanation. The status in Sweden during the World War 2 was complex. As you will now discover in a simplified fashion.

There were over 100 countries that were neutral, but if you are talking about Europe, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Turkey all stayed out of the war. Both sides actively sought the participation of Turkey and Spain to a lesser extent.

Even the Irish free state was also neutral during World War 2. Turkey was one of those opportunistic countries that declared war very late indeed, when going through the motions of entering the war was meaningless - January 1945.

The war began with Nazi Germany's attack on Poland in September, 1939, the United States did not enter the war until after the Japanese bombed the American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941.
