Snowboarding Key Terms The most important terms you need to know to participate in this discourse community.

Slope A slope is a trail specifically made for skiers and snowboarding to take down the mountain. (It is very important to stay on slopes at all times). Each slope is either a green, blue or black. At the beginning of slopes there will be a sign with the name of the slope and a shape, if there is a green circle on the sign that means it’s an easy slope. If there is a blue square that means that slope is meant for people with intermediate skills. If there is a black diamond that means it’s a difficult slope and meant for good skiers and snowboarders. If there is a double black diamond that means it’s one of the most difficult slopes on the mountain and only experts should ride down.

Slope Terms

Pow Pow Pow is short for powder, powder is snowfall that is fresh. (powder is the best snow to ride on, it feels like powder so when you fall it is not going to hurt.) Make sure to have your board recently waxed if you want to get the best experience riding in powder. The better waxed it is the less friction you will have between the snow and your board so you can go faster.

Tree Runs A trail that goes into the tress (for skillful riders) Be very careful when riding on these trails, as a snowboarder I have seen many accidents when boarders crash into trees. These accidents can result in broken bones, concussion, broken board, and in very extreme cases, death. So again, be careful on tree runs.

Terrain Park The part of the mountain which has all the jumps, rails and boxes. (You ride on the rails and boxes and do tricks off of them). You must be more aware than normal when riding in terrain parks. It is important that you know your surroundings and where other boarders are before you hit a jump or rail.
