History of Wayne and Shuster ▪ John Louis Wayne: -Born Toronto 28 May 1918 -Died 18 July 1990 ▪ Frank Shuster: -Born Toronto 5 Sept 1916 -Died 13 Jan 2002

▪ They met as high school friends at Harbord Collegiate Institute, Toronto Canada 1930 where they preformed and wrote for the theatre there ▪ In 1941 they made their radio debut on CFRB The wife Preservers. ▪ This exposure resulted in the pair being given their own comedy show on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Trans-Canada Network as Shuster & Wayne.

▪ Enlisted in the Canadian army in 1942 and preformed for the troops in Europe during WW2 ▪ They returned to Canada to create the Wayne and Shuster show

Types of comedy or humor they used ▪ They performed "literate" comedy, combined with slapstick. They often used classical or Shakespearean settings and characters ▪ What is slapstick? – comedy based on deliberately clumsy actions and humorously embarrassing events.

▪ Wayne and Shuster show appealed to educated people because it took intelligence and a certain knowledge of history and the classics for granted. ▪ Occasionally, the troupe also satirized Canadian politics. For example Speaker of the House skit. ▪ One of their shows consisted of one inappropriate word revering to a woman as “a broad”. They also make fun of other races like first nations ▪ In my opinion after looking at some episodes people from the age of 13 and up are suited to watch these comedies
