Data Companies in publicly funded wind R&D projects from 2003 – 2014 75 companies have had 261 project participations in 175 projects 46 companies have only participated once 12 companies have participate more than 3 times and stand for 2/3 of all company participations Only 3 of the 12 companies are SMEs

Main barriers in time frame and organizational structure SMEs operate with short time frame in R&D activities which corresponds poorly with knowledge institution time frames Many find it difficult to handle resource consuming elements in project set-ups like IP issues SMEs with projects in the EUDP program have reported surprisingly few administrational resources and high satisfaction with the program - 40% of rejected applicants received funding after reapplying a second time Lack of focus on the SME segment from the universities – 72% of company participation in DTU headed projects are with 6 companies
