TOTS Approvals TOTS is approved as a Professional Standard by: The Nautical Institute. The Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology.

The Issues Oil Company Officer Matrix Systems Difficult to Comply with Requirements Contradictory Prohibits Promotion Trends in Incidents Competency Training Requirements The “Human Element” Factor Shortage of Experienced Officers

Incident Trends Lloyds Casualty Data Increasing incidents: 1/2001-1/2008.

The TOTS Objectives Provide a coordinated response by INTERTANKO Provide comfort to Oil/Cos via a structured controlled process; Enhance competency based training; Provide verification of understanding; Ensure compliance with today’s rules & regulations. “Ease compliance” with Officer Matrix Requirements. Ensure that the team onboard will operate the tanker environmentally aware & safe.

TOTS Implementation My Company already has an Officer Training system My Company meets some elements of the TOTS system My company has no officer training system ……………………How can I implement TOTS? My company has an in house simulator training centre. My Company uses external maritime training centres for simulator courses. …………………….How do I demonstrate compliance ?

TOTS Implementation INTERTANKO Has issued Authorisations to all IACS Members: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Bureau Veritas (BV) China Classification Society CSS) Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Korean Register (KR) Gemanischer Lloyd (GL) Lloyds Register (LR) Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Class NK) Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS)

TOTS Implementation To undertake TOTS audits: 1.Against the TOTS standard, to verifying that a tanker owners or managers own company "tanker officer competence training system" either: complies fully with the various elements of the TOTS standard elements; or to undertake a gap analysis of that companies "tanker officer competency training system" against the various elements the TOTS standard elements; 2. To undertake external audits, with a view to verifying that any Maritime Training Centres, Academies or Universities who furnish TOTS simulator courses meet the TOTS simulator model course standards for TOTS. ( (The permission granted by INTERTANKO is "not" exclusive and these permissions are a minimum, to allow third parties to undertake this work if they wish).

Questions/Proposals That Concludes my presentation Your Questions are welcomed. Thank You TOTS is Available from our Publishers at: http://marlins.co.uk
