Pathfinder Panel Offers options to create compound shapes or new paths.

Pathfinder Panel Go to ‘WINDOW’ in the Menu Bar, scroll down to ‘Pathfinder’.

Pathfinder Panel: Shapes Modes Allows you to create compound shapes: a LIVE combination of shapes using Add, Subtract, Intersect, and Exclude

Pathfinder Panel Pathfinder Panel: EXPAND Turns the compound shapes into an ordinary path.

Pathfinder Panel: PATHFINDER MODES Create compound paths that consist of one or more paths that have been combined to behave as a grouped unit.

Pathfinder Panel: PATHFINDER MODES Commands are permanent, “destructive” - shapes cannot be returned to their original editable state (except for Undo). Divide, Trim, Merge, Crop, Outline, Minus Back

Shape Modes vs. Pathfinder Shape Modes allow you to add, subtract, intersect and exclude objects. Pathfinders allow you to divide trim, merge, crop, outline, and subtract objects.
