What Sinful Anger Does!

.. Anger Destroys Families a) Cain and Abel. Gen. 4:1-9 b) Anger is a child of jealousy! 1. Jealous over money. 2. Jealous over knowledge (education 3. Jealous over position!. c) Anger is a separator of homes. 1. Husband and wife. Eph. 5:22,25 2. Parents and children. Eph. 6:1,4 3. Siblings…brothers and sisters!

Anger Destroys churches!. 1. Anger divides brethren. Gen. 13: Lot. Cf. Eph. 4:1-3 2. When brethren are divided, destroys influence. No light for the world to see. Matt.5:16 No pattern for the world. Jas. 1:19-20 3. Anger destroys and hinders work! Phil. 4:1-3;

Anger Destroys Individuals I Kings 19:1-3 Jezebel angry with Elijah! 1. Anger consumes individuals Prov. 20:2 “The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger Sinneth against his own soul!. We become negative. (rolling our eyes, shaking our heads) We become defensive. We become mean.

And, we become Lonely! Prov.22:24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go..

Anger jeopardizes lives! 1. Others’ anger hurts us. a)Road rage. (Rom. 12:20-21) b)Violence (Robberies, c) Abuse _- spouse, child, elderly! 2. Our anger hurts us! Rom. 12:9-16 3. Sinful anger displeases the Lord. Mtt. 5:21-26.

Anger alters our thinking! 1. Revenge vs. Reverence Rom. 12:19-21 “Dearly beloved, avenge not yhourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him, if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

2. Yelling vs. Yielding. Prov. 19:11 “The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression”

3. Provocation vs. Peace. Prov. 29:22 “An angry man stirreth up strife,and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.”

Anger changes moods… Moody, unstable, grouchy Ec. 7:9 “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.”

We can learn to control our anger! 1. By exercising self-control. Gal. 5:23 2. By being kind. Eph. 4:32 3. By not seeking revenge. Rom. 12:19 4. By seeking to help others. Gal. 6:2. 5. By prayer. Matt. 5:44 6. By forgiveness. Lk. 17:3-4 7. By love. Mtt. 5:43-48 8. By being positive. I Cor. 13:7

A good thing to remember is that you can’t save face if you lose your head. An angry man is again angry with himself when he returns to reason. The greatest remedy for anger is delay. The best answer to anger is silence.

Swallowing angry words before you say them is better than having to eat them afterwards. He who goes to bed angry has the devil for a bed-fellow. Never take your enemies to bed with you.

Sinful Anger Unrepented of and not forgiven, will cause us to have to pay the wages… death. Rom. 6:23
