Federal Geographic Data Committee In 1994, Presidential Executive Order 12906 called for the nation’s development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). The Executive Order chartered the FGDC to lead this effort, and to engage the non-Federal sector in this challenge. FGDC is a 19 member interagency committee Composed of representatives from the Executive Office of the President, Cabinet level and independent Federal agencies.

Federal Geographic Data Committee Present FGDC Activities: Grant program to build NSDI through all levels of government, academia, and private and not-for profit sectors Sponsoring national forums and regional workshops on geospatial data Supporting Geospatial One-Stop and the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Developing and adopting content standards Developing user training materials

Cooperative Agreement Program Provides seed funds to engage organizations in building the NSDI –“Don’t Duck Metadata” Metadata creation, trainer assistance, and outreach assistance –Clearinghouse Integration with Geospatial One Stop Portal –Canadian/U.S. Spatial Data Infrastructure Projects

Cooperative Agreement Program 2004 Program will be advertised in Spring (www.fgdc.gov)www.fgdc.gov Past recipients include: –Coeur D’Alene Tribe –Intertribal GIS Council –St. Regis Mohawk Tribe –Cherokee Tribe

Other Training Opportunities: Funding is available for American Indians to attend the following: –GIS Introduction for Conservation Professionals –GPS Introduction for Natural Resource Field Personnel –Intro to Coastal Metadata/GIS –Tribal Framework for Emergency Preparedness –Train the Trainer
