APNIC 26 – Christchurch - NZAugust 2008 Cooperation and Development oriented activities  FRIDA Program - www.programafrida.net  In partnership with IDRC and ISOC.  Small grants program for funding ICT research projects  2 nd phase. Total amount for this phase: US$ 650,000  Total: More than US$ 1 million in 4 years.  41 projects already funded.  New call closed last 18th August. 110 proposals from 18 countries.

APNIC 26 – Christchurch - NZAugust 2008 Governmental forums  LACNIC is very active in the mayor governmental forums in the region.  LACNIC has been very involved in eLAC-2007, the action plan for developing Information Society in LAC region.  We have performed activities that contribute with the achievement of 25 of the 70 eLAC-2007 goals.  LACNIC participated in equal footing with governments in the development and negotiations about eLAC-2010, the new action plan making contributions in different areas like infrastructure, interconnection costs, IXPs and IPv6.

APNIC 26 – Christchurch - NZAugust 2008 LACNIC and eLAC-2010  Particularly, goal 15 referring to IPv6: “ Carry out actions geared towards promoting the adoption of the IPv6 protocol at the public and private levels with a view to making all public services offered via the IP protocol, as appropriate, available on IPv6 and ensuring that the main State infrastructure and applications are IPv6-compatible. Actions to be implemented will, to the extent possible, include the early implementation of requirements to ensure that government procure equipment and applications that are IPv6-compatible.”  Similar resolution was adopted by CITEL – OAS where LACNIC and ARIN are members
