3 The strong heritage tourism focus of the town Cruise Shipping destination Discrete size to be able to strategically address sustainable tourism concerns Ongoing work by TEF, TPDCo and UDC to address the structural, waste management and other issues in the town (TIMELY!) Importance of Craft and other enterprise opportunities as contributions to livelihoods It being a transit point from with tourists embark on Tours including eco-tourism in the Cockpit Country

6 MAIN ISSUES Financial benefits/opportunities to be gained from the pier development needs to be realized by the local merchants and residents, including growing earnings from the craft sector. Need to protect, maintain, develop and better safeguard the significant National and International Heritage features of the Parish whilst increasing leverage for economic growth from tourism DEVELOPMENT PLANS To improve the ambience of the town through façade improvement and the installation of the required street furniture, guided by requirements of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. ( May include rehabilitation of public buildings.) To enhance walkways (sidewalks etc.) To rehabilitate the drainage system To install adequate signage in order to promote and improve visitor convenience.
