UCLA Transfer Admission for International Students: Requirements, Guidelines, Myths

Minimum transfer requirements 60 semester/90 quarter transferable units 2 transferable English composition courses 1 transferable Math course 4 courses chosen from 2 of the following areas: Arts & Humanities; Social & Behavioral Sciences; Physical & Biological Sciences

Selection requirements Academic criteria Completion of eligibility requirements by spring prior to transfer Progress toward completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer Competitive grade point average (GPA) for the major selected Completion of IGETC or UCLA general education requirements strongly encouraged Personal criteria Employment while attending school Family responsibility Returning to school/significant improvement over time

Tips for International Students Complete English requirements as early as possible No credit for courses in language that was primary language of instruction in high school Don’t “repeat” course work in which you had previously earned C or better grades Don’t enroll in lower-level courses if you have already completed higher-level elsewhere Have course descriptions available for appropriate CCC course placement Consider less-impacted majors

International Applicants – Filling out the application Provide complete academic history beginning with 9 th grade Report all course work attempted from every institution attended both within and outside the U.S. Report credits/hours and grades exactly as they would appear on an official transcript Do not work from memory; misreporting grades and omitting course work is considered an academic integrity issue Report any/all diplomas or degrees earned from any country

Filling out the application - continued Provide thorough explanation for all gaps in education Include beginning and ending dates (month/year) for each explanation Report A-level results (GCE A-level, Singapore A-level, HKALE) in the Additional Comments section Report language of instruction for 9-12 th grade Respond to personal statement prompts in your own words

How does UCLA evaluate foreign course work? Uses course descriptions (be prepared to submit course descriptions if asked) Applies same guidelines used for domestic course work Uses standard (commonly-accepted) grade and credit conversions All evaluations are done in-house

Application timeline One application for all UC campuses! Transfer applicants can apply for the fall quarter only Applications must be submitted between November 1 st and November 30 th Applicants must apply online at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply The UC application fee is $80.00** per campus We recommend that students apply broadly within the UC System
