WHAT-IF ANALYSIS

WORKING BACKWARDS While solving a problem, you know the desired end result but you do not know the the value needed. E.g.: You want to increase you revenue to $150 from $100 but you do not the how many sales to do to get this revenue. Need help to work backwards to solve the problem 2

GOAL SEEK Goal Seek is a tool that helps you to know the desired end result but not the value needed to meet the goal Enables you to work backwards to solve a problem 3

WHERE TO FIND GOAL SEEK Data -> Data Tools -> What-If Analysis -> Goal Seek 4

GOAL SEEK Set cell: Your goal cell To value: Your goal By changing cell: What do you want to change to achieve your goal. E.g.: Increasing sales. 5

EXAMPLE Goal: Increase the Spring Revenue to 150 Notice that Spring Sales are 55 before and 82 after Goal Seek. 6

SCENARIO MANAGER Scenarios take detailed sets of input values and determine possible results Scenario Manager enables you to define and manage up to 32 scenarios! 7

CREATE A SCENARIO Data -> Data Tools -> What-If Analysis -> Scenario Manager Add a scenario. Name the scenario Enter the input cells for the scenarios in the Changing cells box 8

9

EXAMPLE Scenario 1: In SCENARIO MANAGER, create a new scenario named Current. Have the scenario work by changing the values of cells B11 through B12 to the values they contain now. 10

11

EXAMPLE Scenario 2 Enter text in the cells as indicated below: B11: 10% B12: 3% In Scenario Manager, create a new scenario named Optimistic. Have the scenario work by changing the values of cells B11 through B12 to the values they contain now. 12

EXAMPLE Scenario 3 Enter text in the cells as indicated below: B11: 2% B12: 0% In SCENARIO MANAGER, create a new scenario named Pessimistic. Have the scenario work by changing the values of cells B11 through B12 to the values they contain now. 13

SHOW THE RESULTS Using SCENARIO MANAGER, show the results of the Optimistic scenario Notice the changes in values of cells which include the data of cells B11 and B12. (C5 through D6) Why only these cell values are changing not the rest. 14

SUMMARY 17

SCENARIO SUMMARY REPORTS In SCENARIO MANAGER, create a scenario PivotTable report using cells B7 through D7 as the result cells. On the resulting PivotTable, format the cells B5 through D7 as currency with 2 decimal places 18
