18.1 – Atmosphere, Weather, and Climate Layers of the Atmosphere troposphere: moderates flow of energy to Earth; where weather occurs tropopause: boundary region where air shifts from cooling with height and begins to warm stratosphere: contains ozone layer mesosphere and thermosphere: low ozone concentrations with little to no oxygen and nitrogen

18.1 – Atmosphere, Weather, and Climate Weather is the day-to-day variation in temperature, air pressure, wind, humidity, and precipitation. Climate is the result of long-term weather patterns in a region (typically over a 30-year period) Convection currents generally move in a west-to-east pattern A front is a boundary where different air masses meet

18.2 – Climate Change Science

18.3 – Response to Climate Change Adaptation: making adjustments to the way things are done in anticipation of changes brought on by rising sea levels and temperatures in the future Mitigation: reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a variety of strategies and policies
