Project Goals To produce a photo- realistic pencil drawing To increase the awareness of how much seeing improves drawings To improve proportions and scale in drawings Artist Chuck Close in action

Description Students will choose a full page magazine picture (or personal photo for advanced classes) in order to reproduce it on paper Students will choose a full page magazine picture (or personal photo for advanced classes) in order to reproduce it on paper Junior high will use 12”x18” sized paper, while high school will use18”x24”. Junior high will use 12”x18” sized paper, while high school will use18”x24”. Choose something that will challenge you, you are able to do very difficult drawings with somewhat ease. Figure or Face

The Process 1/2” squares on the magazine or photocopy. –Mark it dark and measure from the same edge twice –Draw a Line See a Line!

The Process, cont. Mark lightly on the white paper with 3/4” or 1” squares using a yard stick (light on the white). Include the numbers

The Process, cont. Analyze each square as you lightly sketch out the drawing –sketch all of the drawing out before you shade Use lights and Darks effectively –contrast helps turn an average drawing into and outstanding one!
