Grid Drawings The purpose is -To copy accurately. -To enlarge accurately. - Chuck Close is an excellent example of an artist that uses this technique.

Close puts a grid on the photo and on the canvas and copies the photo square by square.

Close at times turned away from the hyper realism

Still used a grid but each square often had multiple colors and patterns.

When seen from afar the squares come together to create the portrait

Chuck Close Had a medical ‘event’ in 1988 that left him paralyzed

continued to paint with a brush held between his teeth, or strapped to his arm using a grid created by an assistant.
