The Native Americans of Texas Made By: Lauren Bean and Savanna Martin
2
They live in Louisiana and Southern Texas. Their homes were called Brush Shelter, which were made of grass and reeds built around a simple frame work.
3
They made their livelihood as hunters and fishermen. Most of their diet was fish and seafood (including oysters, shrimp, and crabs.) Atakapan men also hunted big game like deer, buffalo, and alligators, and women gathered fruit, nuts, and wild honey. Like other Indians they use spears to hunt and bows and arrows too.

The Atakapan men wore breechcloths. The Atakapan women wore wrap around skirts made of deer skin or woven fabric. Shirts were not necessary for the Atakapan Tribe. They shaved their heads in the form of a Mohawk. They also wore Tribal Tattoos and Jewlrey.

The Atakapas usually went barefoot, but sometimes they also wore moccasins on their feet. Here are some more photographs and links about Indian tribesin general. The Atakapas didn't wear long head dresses like the Sioux. Some Atakapa warriors wore porcupine head roachesand shaved their heads in the Mohawk style. Other Atakapa men wore their hair long, like the women. The Atakapas didn't usually paint their faces, but they did decorate their bodies with tribal tatoos. Both men and women wore tattoos in the Atakapa tribe.
