Focus Lesson: …The Crucible Direct Instruction: Text Analysis History: a branch of knowledge that explains events of the past Drama: a composition intended to tell a story. Guided Practice Writers want to earn money. They take the drama surrounding a past event and embellish it in order to create drama centered around their interpretation of it as depicted through their work. Independent Practice: Read “The Salem Witchcraft Trials” (Elements… pp. 10-11) and consider how they caused mass hysteria.

Focus Lesson: …The Crucible Small Groups Divide into 3 groups and distribute the essay planning form to one member of each group. Select a recorder for the group. Consider how the trials caused mass hysteria. Each group is responsible for writing the following on the form in the spaces provided (30 classwork points): The names of all of the group members, period # and today’s date at the top A thesis statement Topic sentence #1 At least 3 specific details immediately beneath
