HOW TO FLY FOR THE USAF Air Force Flyers

There are four jobs whose principle responsibilities involve aircraft operation ● Pilot ● Combat Systems Officer (CSO) ● Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) ● Air Battle Manager (ABM) WHAT IS “RATED”

● Must be younger than 29 ● GPA must be 2.5 or higher ● Must pass the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) ● Must attend Field Training ● Must be medically qualified ○ Class I flight physical ○ Completed after selection QUALIFICATIONS

● RSS: Relative Standing Score is the Commander’s ranking of you against your peers measuring volunteer hours, leadership, and professionalism COMMANDERS RANKING

● Must take Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) ○ Standardized test similar to SAT or ACT ○ Must meet minimum requirements while the specific aviation knowledge (pilot/navigator sections) are counted competitively ● Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS) ○ Tests psychomotor skill and cognitive apptitude TESTING

● Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PCSM) ○ 3 Parts ■ TBAS - Test of Basic Aviation Skills which tests your hand-eye coordination ■ AFOQT Pilot/Navigator Scores ■ Flight hours ○ Scored from 1-99 ○ PCSM score is the largest part of the selection process PCSM

● Order of Merit for rated slots o 40%-PCSM o 25%-Relative Standing Score o 15%-Field Training ranking o 10%-Fitness assessment score o 10%-Cumulative GPA ORDER OF MERIT EQUATION

Cadets compete in the board three semesters before they commission. Board usually meets around 15 Jan. 4 year students submit Winter of junior year 5 year students submit Winter of senior year Cadets will indicate what type of rated category you want to go into. TIMELINE

● Has 3 rounds of selection or until all slots are filled, the rounds are based on the selected interest level in order of high, medium, low ● The order of each round is: o Pilot o CSO (Combat Systems Officer) o RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) o ABM (Air Battle Manager) ● 2015 - 897 volunteer for 689 slots (79%) THE RATED BOARD

● Supplementary Board (September) o Cadets already selected to attend pilot training will then be considered for ENJJPT o Cadets nominated after the primary board will be placed on whatever alternate lists they qualify for o Vacancies- due to medical disqualification, Fiscal year changes, disenrollment, or declining rated slot ● Cadets can fill vacancies in a higher slot o ABM - RPA o RPA - CSO o CSO - Pilot AFTER THE RATED BOARD
