Lesson 4.03: Graph using Slope-Intercept Form
4
we can graph a line easily when given: 1. a point 2. the slope of the line
5
SLOPE-INTERCEPT FORM
6
y = mx + b STEP 1: Look at the y-intercept (b): When you have a linear equation, the y-intercept is the point where the graph of the line crosses the y-axis (0, y). STEP 2: Look at the slope (m): It describes the steepness of a line. You use “rise over run”
7
Example 1
8
Example 2 y = 3x - 1
9
Example 3: Now we can finally graph using slope-intercept form. y = -3x + 2 y = mx + b
10
Example 4: Graph using slope-intercept form. x + y = 0 y = -x y = mx + b
11
Example 5: Graph using slope-intercept form. 4x + 5y = 15 -4x 5y = -4x + 15 5 5 5
12
Example 6: Graph using slope-intercept form. 4x - y – 3 = 0 -4x - y – 3 = -4x +3 +3 -y = -4x + 3 y = 4x -3
