2 O RIENTATION O BJECTIVES Define & clarify the role of CPE courses Review course guidelines and requirements Clarify responsibilities of course instructors & CIU 20 staff Demonstrate various resources & tools to available to instructors

3 C ONTINUING P ROFESSIONAL E DUCATION (CPE) C OURSES Graduate Level Courses PDE Approved Up to 18 credits can be used toward Instructional II certification

4 CPE C OURSE R EQUIREMENTS One credit 14 hours in class 16 hours out of class assignments

5 CPE C OURSE R EQUIREMENTS Must meet an identified need based on hard data Must require reading outside of class Must have a culminating project and/or research paper

6 CPE C OURSE O PPORTUNITIES OUT OF CLASS Reading Assignments Threaded Discussions Research paper Reflection IN CLASS Class Discussion Class Presentations

11 CIU 20 R ESPONSIBILITIES Assist course instructors through all facets of the proposal development & approval process Advertise the course to all member school districts Provide training on various tools available to instructors

12 I NSTRUCTOR R ESPONSIBILITIES Complete and/or update the proposal according to PDE’s requirements Submit all paperwork in a timely manner Communicate any changes in schedule or course proposal Be sensitive to timelines and review process Be a positive face for the intermediate and our member school districts
