4 Lake Carolina Elementary The Highly Effective Teaching (HET) Model (formerly ITI: Integrated Thematic Instruction) has served as our instructional model since 2004. We began implementing HET with: using the Lifelong Guidelines and LIFESKILLS. creating safe, non-threatening environments. use of Agendas in classrooms. use school-wide and classroom Procedures. Movement to enhance learning. In the 2008-09 school year, curriculum mapping and conceptual teaching were added to our HET initiatives.

5 Lake Carolina Elementary The use of yearlong themes/concept maps, concept days, agendas, immersion walls/tables, and written procedures have provided teachers and students with clear learning goals and responsibilities for the school year as well as each school day.

6 Lake Carolina Elementary The use of purposeful movement strategies such as body mapping, quiz-quiz-trade, fold the line, and inside/outside circle are allowing students to be actively engaged in their learning.

8 Lake Carolina Elementary Non-verbal cues such as music, songs, chants, and chimes as well as simultaneous response techniques have been incorporated into classroom routines and procedures to allow for calm, smoother transitions and increased instructional student responsibility.

9 Lake Carolina Elementary HET (ITI) has created a more meaningful learning environment that has students highly engaged with teachers who are incorporating powerful practices and strategies that foster a school community that is taking teaching and learning to new levels.
