ABOUT SYBEA North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Business in partnership with the Executive Leadership Council presents an exciting opportunity for high school students to participate in a 2-week residential Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy (SYBEA).

Mission Statement “NCCU Summer Business and Entrepreneurship Academy exposes a diverse group of youth to careers in professional management and promotes academic excellence.” The School of Business at North Carolina Central University prepares students for success and global leadership in the 21st century. The School of Business prepares students for today’s careers in major fields of business administration and management. Initiatives such as the Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy offer opportunities for talented high school students to learn key skills on a university campus.

ABOUT ELC The Executive Leadership Council is a national organization comprised of current and former African-American CEOs and senior executives at Fortune 500 and equivalent companies. We are proud to acknowledge ELC as our corporate sponsor. Value of Participation= $2500 Cost to Selected Participants= $0 (cost is covered by the ELC’s contribution in the form of a scholarship for selected students)

Learning Outcomes Soft Skills Adaptability - I feel more comfortable in surroundings that are unfamiliar to me. Interpersonal Skills - I feel more comfortable introducing myself to people I don't know. Leadership Skills - I feel more comfortable leading groups. Networking Skills - I feel more comfortable searching out for professional development resources and organizations. Social Skills - I feel more comfortable speaking in class and making new friends. A cademic Skills - I feel as though I'm a better student, because of this opportunity.

Academy Details Residential Facilities and Meals Students will participate in a fully immersed collegiate experience on the campus of North Carolina Central University including 3 meals a day. Lectures taught by host NCCU professors and local business leaders. Topics include introductory business courses in marketing, entrepreneurship, leadership and ethics. Corporate visits to help students gain exposure to the application of business principles in the real world as they interact with local corporate executives during on-site visits. Business plan development and team competition with participants to derive a business plan for a new idea. A panel of judges from the business community will evaluate the plan and a prize will be awarded to the winning team. Date: Sunday, June 19, 2016 thru Friday, July 1, 2016

Eligibility Enrolled (in Fall 2016) in high school in the 10th, 11 th, and 12 th grade. A cumulative 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale (B average or higher) Excellent attendance record Extra-curricular activities and involvement Students with GPA lower than 3.0 and involved in significant extra-curricular activities may be considered

Residential Facility Opened in fall 2011, Chidley North Residence Hall houses 517 students in corridor and suite style accommodations. The hall has a laundry, kitchen and study room on each floor. There are lounges in every wing, a classroom and computer lab on the second floor, and Wi-Fi throughout. Meals All of the participants’ meals are fully funded throughout the program. Students will have meal cards that will allow them breakfast, lunch and dinner in our newly remodeled state of the art Dining Facility.

Merchandise All Students will have special merchandise specifically created for them at this year’s SYBEA cohort.

Orientations There will be both an in-person orientation as well as an online orientation for both parents and students prior to the start of the academy.
