1 Laura Gibbons – SI641 Project A compilation of student and teacher materials to supplement a Dinosaurs! themed Learn it! Do it! day at the UM Museum of Natural History for K-2 groups – Student’s pre-visit materials – Student’s post-visit materials – Teacher’s guide to materials and concepts

2 Addressing a need: – K-2 ages greatly benefit from a possession of prior knowledge before an educational experience – Upon completion of my project, UMMNH intends to use compilation as template for all pre-, post-, and teacher guides for all Learn it! Do it! themed days for all ages Guiding design: UMMNH’s student journal for Dinosaurs! K-2 Learn it! Do it! day (used monthly) Guiding resources: Stripling’s and Dewey’s concepts of constructivism and inquiry

3 Student Pre-Visit Materials Addresses key concepts students will encounter: – What is a dinosaur? – Herbivores vs. carnivores Includes formative assessments (also in student journal) Addresses multiple strategies for multiple intelligences

4 Student Post-Visit Materials Reviews key concepts and exhibits – Exhibits are reviewed because of the proven connection between specific experience and education Includes summative assessment

5 Teacher Guide to Student Materials Includes background information, suggested procedures (lesson plans), options for modification (based on ages, levels), assessments, expansions, and alignments with MI GCLEs and the Common Core
