2 Bibb & Iceberg Lettuce Bibb and iceberg lettuces are common types of salad greens These are grown worldwide and are available throughout the year Different types of lettuces are distinguished by head formation and leaf structure

3 Bibb & Iceberg Lettuce The lettuce plant has a very short stem initially, but when it gradually blooms, the stem and branches lengthen and produce many flower heads that look like those of dandelions, but smaller. This is referred to as bolting. When grown to eat, lettuce is harvested before it bolts Bolting

4 Bibb Lettuce This butterhead lettuce has delicate, loose leaves, lots of flavor, and a buttery texture This type of lettuce is most popular in Europe

5 Iceberg Lettuce Also called Crisphead, this type of lettuce forms tight, dense heads that resemble cabbage This is prized for its crunchy texture but not so much its flavor because it is the mildest of the lettuces This is the most common lettuce sold in the United States

6 Bibb & Iceberg Lettuce These are usually eaten raw, notably in salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, tacos, and many other dishes Lettuces can also be cooked and added to soups for extra nutrition and flavor
