Table of Contents What is the problem? Examination of product Consumer Research Sustainability Concerns Organic Plastics Paper Batteries Final Design Summary References

What is the Problem? Loss of Customers Environmental/Sustainability Issues

Examination of Current Model

What the People Want 10 out of 10 people have used a single use camera Used on special occasions 9 out of 10 people were happy with the resulting pictures Only 1 out of 10 people would consider buying a single use camera again. –Digital Cameras as better option 8 out of 10 people would consider themselves environmentally concious

Sustainability E-Waste (electronic waste) is any form of electronic device that is “broken” or no longer of use to the owner of the device. Most E-Waste is exported to developing nations –Much lower prices Kodak already has noted recycling program –However E-Waste is inevitable

Organic Plastics Unlike oil based plastics bio based plastics are biodegradable Can be used for a variety of applications Cost of oil is rising as cost of creating bio plastics is falling

Paper Batteries Works like traditional battery, but paper thin More flexible/Long shelf life Cost of 1 cent per square inch Environmentally benign

Final Design Replace current alkaline battery with paper battery Replace current oil- based plastic with organic bioplastic

Take Home Message Current single use camera: –declining market –sustainability issues Redesigned camera: –solves problems related to environment –draw in environmentally conscious consumers Move ahead of the curve
