Robbins et al., 1996 ●12 chess players, all male, varying abilities ●Asked to sit down in front of a chess game that had already been started & given three minutes to determine the sequence of moves they would take in order to achieve checkmate. ●Asked to record their analysis & decision at the end of the 3 minute period.

Robbins et al., 1996 ●Conditions o Control: press a key on a keypad continuously o Articulatory Loop suppression task: repeat the word see-saw o Visio-spatial Sketchpad suppression task: press keys on a 3x3 keypad in a clockwise motion, not allowed to see the keypad o Central executive suppression: generate a random string of letters to the alphabet aloud ●Results o VSS & CE suppression tasks conditions = significant drop in ability to select correct moves to achieve checkmate!
