2.  There are 2 ways that organisms obtain their energy 1. Producer (aka Autotroph) 2. Consumer (aka Heterotroph)

3.  Makes food by changing light energy of the sun into chemical energy, or food  Ex. Plants, algae, some bacteria

4.  Organisms that do not make their own food and must ‘consume’ it  Ex. Humans, dogs, fungi (such as mushrooms), sharks, etc Mrs. Lalonde’s dog!

5. 1) Herbivores  Animals that obtain ALL of their energy from eating producers (plants)  Ex. Cows, Elephants, Giraffes

6. 2. Carnivores  Obtain ALL of their energy from eating other organisms  Lions, tigers, sharks, hawks

7. 3. Omnivores  Obtain energy by eating a mixture of plants and animals  Ex humans, bears

8. 4. Scavenger  Obtain energy by eating dead organisms  Ex. Vultures, shrimp

9. 5. Decomposer  absorb any dead material and break it down into simple nutrients or fertilizers  Ex. – Bacteria and Mushrooms
