2. Let’s review addition without regrouping. 6 + 2 = 8 Our total was not 10 or more so we didn’t have to regroup.

3. Addition with regrouping is used when our answer is 10 or more. We can only put 9 ones in the ones place. So a 10 is equal to 1 group of ten and 0 ones.

4. Four ones plus eight ones equal twelve ones in all. 4 ones + 8 ones 4 + 8 12 12 ones in all

5. We can regroup the 12 ones as 10 ones and 2 ones. 10 ones 2 ones

6. Or we can regroup the 12 ones as 1 group of ten and 2 ones. 1 ten 4 + 8 12 2 ones

7. 4 +8 12 4 + 8 is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 2 in the ones place. We regrouped the 12 ones as 1 in the tens place

8. Let’s do another one.

9. Nine ones plus two ones equal eleven ones in all. 9 ones+ 2 ones 9 + 2 11 11 ones in all

10. We can regroup the 11 ones as 10 ones and 1 one. 10 ones 1 one 9 + 2 11

11. Or we can regroup the 10 ones as 1 group of ten and 1 one. 1 ones1 ten 9 + 2 11

12. 9 +2 11 9 + 2 is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 1 in the ones place. We regrouped the 10 ones as 1 in the tens place
