Types of Graphs Which is most appropriate for my data? MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Types of Graphs Bar Graph or Double Bar Graph Line Plot Line Graph Frequency Table Stem-and-Leaf plot Circle Graph Dot Plot Histogram Box Plot MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Bar Graph or Double Bar Graph A bar graph uses length of bars to represent numbers and COMPARE data. In some cases, the use of a pair of bars to compare data is more useful. This kind of graph is called a double bar graph. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Line Plot Instead of comparing data you may want to show the spread of the data using a line plot. *Spread of the data- using MMMR to best represent our data. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Line Graph Line graphs are used to track changes over short and long periods of time. When smaller changes exist, line graphs are better to use than bar graphs. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Frequency Table A frequency table shows how often an item, a number, or range occurs. Could be used when counting responses, or to group data into intervals. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Stem-and-Leaf Stem-and-leaf allow you to easily see the least, greatest and median values in a set of data. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Circle Graph Circle graphs are best to use when you are trying to compare parts of a whole. They do not show changes over time. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Dot Plot Dot plots compare the frequency an item, number or event occurs in groups. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Histogram Histograms show how often data falls into different ranges or intervals. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313

Box Plot (formerly known as box and whisker) If you have a large set of data, and want to present how the data cluster you may use a box plot. The box plot displays the median, the quartiles and outlier of a set of data, but does not display specific values. MathisFun.Com- Organizing and Comparing Data; Math on Call p. 262-313
