Background Purpose Create an appreciation of the different legal options for implementing connectivity conservation. Provide an opportunity for Learners to understand the intersection between law and connectivity conservation. Enable Learners to reflect on the manner in which provisions of existing laws could be used in a practical setting. Encourage critical thinking about the respective strengths and weaknesses of existing laws and how they relate to one another. Structure Introduction to exercise (suggested time allocation, 5 minutes) Group work (suggested time allocation, 60 minutes) Joint class discussion (suggested time allocation, 55 minutes)

The Case Study

The Exercise The Government wishes to promote connectivity across the landscape. You are groups of consultants who have been tasked with identifying how existing laws could be used to promote connectivity within the landscape. Reflect on the practical scenario and the map. Develop responses as follows: Recommendations on how to use the existing laws to support the proposed corridor. The strengths and weaknesses associated with each of the existing laws. The possible relationships between the existing laws that will support the proposed corridor.

Joint Group Discussion Each group will briefly explain its responses. The groups will engage each other with a view to improving each other’s understandings of how to use existing laws to support connectivity conservation.
