Mrs. Hines Math Class 2007-08 Trig, Algebra II, & Pre-Algebra 2
3
Some things may have changed… Please pay attention!!! They do apply to you! HERE WE GO!
4
What you can expect You will have class work each day. It must be finished by the beginning of class the next day *Late work will not be accepted! For success, I expect you to spend at least 20 minutes on homework or notes each night! Hopefully you can get a good start during class!
5
What you can expect You will have notes each day. Keep these organized in a binder (have by next Wednesday). 1” – 2” Notes don’t help if they are not organized and reviewed from time to time.
6
Binder Algebra II and Trig You need a section for… Notes Current homework Old homework, quizzes Overviews: Chapter assignment sheets or tentative schedules Could be combined
7
Don’t let this be a mess It does seem to make a positive impact on overall understanding, therefore grade. 2 minutes a day will keep you organized.
8
Folder Pre-Algebra 2 You will continue your class folder Notes are organized by date on the left hand side Old homework is organized by date on the right hand side Paper may be included inside the folder holders Your name will be written on the label on the front of the folder You are not to write on the folder otherwise!
9
Absent? If you are sick and stay home, you get one day per day missed to make up home work. Tests and quiz make ups must be scheduled immediately. If you know you are going to be absent ahead of time (field trip, pre-arranged absence like a doctor’s visit, debate tournament, parent absence request, or ball game) Your homework is still due on time
10
When you are Absent, Copy the notes you missed from someone you trust in class ( do you have e-mail that lets you open power point?) If you missed homework…Write down the missed assignment
11
When you are Absent… If you missed a test or quiz…schedule a time to make up that item. Turn in any homework due while absent- you will need to grade this before turning it in. *IMPORTANT: Do not let late homework get you behind
12
Absent Work *IMPORTANT: Do not let late homework get you behind Keep working on current homework rather than putting new items on “the back burner” and concentrating on old things. STAY CURRENT
13
LATE WORK If you miss an assignment, it will be beneficial to you to make the assignment up because you will be TESTED over the topic. However, Late Work will not be added to the grade book this semester. You may still grade it to see how well you mastered the material.
14
LATE WORK * Be aware how many of you took advantage of late work! YIKES!! Late work can kill your grade quickly! Don’t develop bad habits!
15
ZAP Sheets Zeros Aren’t Aren’t Permitted Permitted You can’t pass a class if you never practice
16
ZAP Sheets ZAP Sheets will still be filled out anytime you do not have an assignment to turn in. Fill one out for a good or bad reason Include date(s) missed (if absent), current date, and assignment missed. You also must write your new due date on the ZAP sheet. This will help keep us organized.
17
Points Tests and Quizzes account for approximately 60% of your Quarter grade. Homework accounts for approximately 40% of your Quarter grade. Finals are 10% of your Semester grade.
18
After School Assistance Mrs. Hines will be available after school until 3:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays ONLY (until she is no longer broken) Available 7 th hour only for test and quiz make-ups (again, until I am no longer broken) Once I am fixed, I will be able to do more to help. I can arrange for tutors!!
19
Before School Assistance Mrs. Black-Schwandt has arranged to have excellent math tutors in the library before school each day. I am afraid I will need the time before 8:50 to get copies together and materials organized instead of being able to always help. Again, time will be freed up when I am no longer broken…sorry☻ PLEASE, talk with me about any concerns you have- worries or study time needed.
20
Technology There are many benefits to having online notes and lessons. (Aside from the benefit of my brokenness ) Notes, assignments, or schedules that can be e-mailed where possible We are giving this a try for 3 rd quarter— Let me know if you cannot see or need a different seat
21
Technology There are areas of the room that are now OFF LIMITS! NO MESSING WITH THE LCD PLAYER NO SITTING IN THE ROLLING CHAIR NEAR THE COMPUTER OR LCD PLAYER NO MESSING WITH THE COMPUTER-laptop or desktop No MESSING WITH MY DESK NO DRAWING ON THE BOARDS WITHOUT REQUESTING FIRST-this drives me nuts No PUSHING ME AROUND in my little chair. No PUSHING ME AROUND in my little chair. But seriously, the left foot is very fragile. My sis will kick butt if it gets damaged. I’m sure we will all do fine
22
Notes and Work Time The focus of Notes must be Trig, Algebra II, Pre-Algebra 2. (fill in the blank) We may use humor from time to time as a stress breaker or memory tool, but it can never replace the focus of notes and work time. The point is…everything has its place
23
Supplies You need to have a pen or pencil each day in class Usually, a calculator will be helpful- graphing calculators can give you an edge! You need paper- I have some for you to borrow.
24
Supplies Trig and Algebra II You may forget something from time to time… DO NOT MAKE THIS A COMMON OCCURANCE. Be Responsible enough to bring your materials.
25
Calculators Thanks to all of you that brought calculators for extra credit, we have plenty to share. I do have calculators for students to use, but you must return them that hour! Do not remove them from the classroom Always return calculators, please
