ASAS Opportunities SESAR and NextGen
2
SESAR D4 Time is very short – we only have until the end of October Lines of Change, Operational Improvements and Implementation Packages We must review these We must get the main development and implementation steps into the appropriate D4 documents
3
SESAR and NextGen There are many similarities They need to remain in step and remain compatible Use the FAA/EUROCONTROL Action Plans to facilitate this – AP23 for ASAS We should therefore develop a strategy for validation and implementation that shares and builds upon each other’s results
4
SESAR JU The influence of the “ASAS Community” ASAS has many detractors and there is still a lack of common understanding The ASAS-TN ends in April 2008 We need to maintain an “ASAS group of experts” to co-ordinate inputs into the JU
5
Short Term We should acknowledge that a number of applications are simple and can deliver benefit in the short term ATSA-SURF, ATSA-S&M, ITP….. We need to build upon the structure of the CASCADE/CRISTAL projects so that pioneer airlines can use them in specific locations
6
Long Term Focus now on those applications which will take time to develop and which we expect will give significant benefits Self Separation (SSEP) Support the experts who are trying to quantify benefits
7
Long Term Start work NOW –To define the requirements for the most demanding applications –To develop the technologies which give the required integrity levels
8
Simplify Upgrades Develop a plan for the minimum number of avionics upgrades Keep early applications simple – don’t demand too much of them ATSA-SURF – use the own position and traffic advisories
