BNG-345: Lecture 15 The Shoulder Anatomy Disease Final Friday Nov. 20, 8:30- 10:30 AM
2
Learning Objectives Identify the bones of the shoulder Identify the ligaments of the shoulder Identify the muscles and their main functions
3
The Shoulder Joint Ball and Socket Joint In shoulder region there are 3 joints: Glenohumeral Joint (GH) Sternoclavicular Joint (SC) Acromioclavicular joint (AC)
4
Bones of Shoulder Girdle
5
Scapula
6
Humerus
7
Clavicle
8
Glenohumeral Joint Comprised of the rounded medial anterior surface of the humerus and the glenoid fossa The shallow surface of the GH joint and the connective tissue at the joint allows the arm a large degree of motion
9
Sternoclavicular Joint At the medial end of the clavicle and the manubrium, which is the top most portion of the sternum
10
Acromioclavicular Joint Where the acromial process of the scapula meets the clavicle
11
Acromioclavicular Joint Joint where the Acromiol process of scapula meets the clavicle
12
Ligaments Glenoid Labrum Fibrocartilage rim around the glenoid cavity Deepens the shallow cavity Contributes little to joint stability
15
Muscles The deep muscle group that moves the shoulder are the rotator cuff muscles primary function is to keep the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa help rotate the shoulder in many directions
16
Muscles
17
Bursa
18
