4 Absolute Value Absolute Value: the distance between the number and zero. Opposites: two numbers with the same absolute value but different signs. Absolute Value Signs: | | Ex. |3||-4||12|

5 Real-Life Absolute Value On a certain day in January the temperature in Anchorage, Alaska was 15° below zero. In St. Paul, Minnesota, it was 5° above zero. In San Diego, California, it was 50° above zero. In Tampa, Florida, it was 75° above zero. Draw a number line showing these temperatures. How much warmer is it in Tampa than St. Paul? How much colder is it in Anchorage than in San Diego?
