10. Summary Baroque 1590s-1720s The Baroque period of art is a style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur. The popularity and success of the Baroque movement was encouraged by the Roman Catholic Church.

Interesting Facts About Artist Although his family was poor they took care of his education and enrolled into the university of Leiden at the age of 14 but because the program did not interest him he left to study art. the picture on bottom is believed to be a self portrait of him in the night watch behind the guard. The picture is of rembrandt’s town house in Amsterdam where he produced most of his works. Bought by him in 1639 later to become a house of tragedy after his wife and three of his children died there. Later becoming a financial burden in 1660 he was forced to move out. In 1911 the dutch movement made it a rembrandt museum preserving and imposing an example of 17 th century art
