3 The Playhouse was a gift from Lord and Lady Beaverbrook to the people of New Brunswick in 1964. It is now owned by the city. Theatre New Brunswick was officially founded, largely by a $20,000 grant from the Beaverbrook Foundation in 1969. TNB ran within the Playhouse until 2002 but still performs there.
