1 Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child
Unit 3.8

2 Planning meeting the needs of children
Different approaches to planning to meet the individual needs of children. Staff should get together on a regular basis to plan. Observations needs to take place prior to implementing activities with children . Taking into account their interests and developmental needs. .

3 The first part of the plan
Your short term plans should be in two parts. The first part of the plan: An organizational plan on one side of A4 which clearly states which staff is doing which activities and when they are doing them. These activities are pulled directly from the medium term plan. You do not need to do a separate activity every day with every member of staff

4 The first part of the plan
When you plan e.g. two per week it will enable you to develop the children’s ideas and repeat and refine. It is important you achieve the balance between adult directed activities and child initiated activities. The long term plans show how you support the child initiated activities on a regular basis, the short term plans show your adult-directed activities.

5 The first part of the plan
This part of the plan should also contain information on which adults are going to spend time in which area of constant provision . Example ; Creative area ,Sand area, Painting area. By doing this you ensure that what is written in your long term plans is implemented . This will also enable you to give support to children who are following their own interests.

6 The first part of the plan
Also in this part of the plan you should identify which stories you will be focusing on and which songs and rhymes. You should also make a note of any extra resources which you will be introducing towards your topic as you will probably not want to put everything out at once.

7 The Second Part of the Plan
Each member of staff should complete a sheet for each activity they are going to do in the week. They should plan what they want the children to learn from the activity (this will most likely be on the medium term plan but may also have been influenced by your observations on the children.

8 The Second Part of the Plan
Staff should also plan how they are going to teach this or what their role is going to be, what new words they are going to introduce . Remember your planning will link to the curriculum framework and the learning outcomes for children.

9 The Second Part of the Plan
At this point they need to be thinking about any extra resources needed (only list those which will have to be obtained in advance – don’t list anything which is freely available like scissors, paper, paint etc!) Remember this activity will probably be done several times over the week and may evolve and change in that time – don’t worry – this is how it’s supposed to be.
