Zoë’s Cloud Watching Project Mr. Barber’s Class 5 th grade PB Works Assignment

Clouds—What Are They? Before we get into pictures of clouds, we’ll discuss what clouds are. Do you know what a cloud is? Clouds are an important part of earth’s weather. They hold the water that falls to earth’s surface as precipitation—rain, snow, hail, sleet. They help all forms of life— plants, people, animals, etc.. But, they can sometimes be dangerous and destructive like big hailstones, tornadoes, or even hurricanes. o Basically, clouds are masses of either tiny water droplets or ice crystals. They are formed when they evaporate, or turn to a gas, from rivers, lakes, oceans, moist soil, or even plants! They can look like all types of things—gray/black sheets or white and fleecy blankets! o Most clouds move and change shape frequently. They change as parts of them evaporate in dryer air or they are moved and reshaped by the wind.

Puffy Clouds

I took this at around 1:15 PM on Sunday, December 9. I think there are a couple of clouds: a stratus, altocumulus, and cumulus. I think it sort of looks like a piece of land with a [white] rainbow coming out of it. What do you see?

NIGHTTIME CLOUDS

This is at my house on December 10. It was 5:38 PM when I took this picture. It may be a little hard to see, but there are some cumulonimbus clouds filling up the sky and the darker cloud is I believe nimbostratus. If you look, they are the dark shapes next to my house. It looks pretty normal to me.

These are some stratus clouds. They were taken on December 19 at 5:37. We missed the sunset.  We were by the NASCAR Hall of Fame!

Sunrise & Sunset Clouds

My dad took this picture on December 19 at around 5:15 PM. These are some stratus clouds. It was taken down the street from my house (at Lake Norman). Don’t you just love sunsets?

This was around 7:45 AM on December 11. It was in at my house. I believe these are cumulus clouds because of the puffiness!!!

I believe these are stratus clouds. They were taken on December 20 at 7:04 AM. I think they are beautiful! My mom took this picture at our house!

This picture was taken at 6:36 on October 26, 2012. This was down the street from my house, at Lake Norman. These are altostratus and a little bit of cirrus at the top.

Take-over-Your- neighbor’s-house clouds

This was taken at 2:08 PM on December 15. This was taken in my front yard. These are some cirrus and cumulus clouds—the wispiness at the top and puffiness near the tree on the right side.

Wispy Clouds

These are some cirrus clouds. They were Taken at around 8:37 on December 19, 2012. they sort of remind me of a feather’s journey flying. It was taken in the car on the way to school (on I-77)
