IRIOS  CERIF Mappings Paul Cranner Bath, 9 th February 2012

IRIOS Overview Core grant info imported from RCs –E.g. title, abstract, status, value, dates, principle investigator, institute/department Core publication info imported from HEIs –E.g. title, publication, publisher, date, author Grants linked to publications manually CERIF export

cfProj Abstr cfProj Abstr cfProj Title cfProj Title cfProj_ Class cfProj_ Class Grant state Grant type Grant scheme Grant stage cfProjID = generated UUID cfStartDate = actual grant start date cfEndDate = actual grant end date cfURI = RC grant reference cfProj_ OrgUnit cfProj_ OrgUnit Coordinator Applicant cfProj_ Pers cfProj_ Pers Principle Investigator cfProj_ ResPubl cfProj_ ResPubl Originator – i.e. Publication Y originates from grant X cfProj_ Fund cfProj_ Fund cfFundID = RC grant reference Amount applied for Amount awarded * Red denotes formal CERIF semantic classification CERIF Mappings – Grant

cfPers Name cfPers Name cfPers_ Class cfPers_ Class Personal title – e.g. “Mr”, “Mrs”, “Prof” cfPersID = generated UUID cfURI = RC CDR_PERSON_ID_xxx cfPers_ OrgUnit cfPers_ OrgUnit Job title – e.g. “Lecturer in Law” Functional role – e.g. “Academic” cfPers_ ResPubl cfPers_ ResPubl Author – i.e. person X is author of publication Y cfProj_ Pers cfProj_ Pers Principle Investigator * Red denotes formal CERIF semantic classification CERIF Mappings – Person

cfOrgUnit Name cfOrgUnit Name cfOrgUnit _Class Type – i.e. “University” cfOrgUnitID = generated UUID cfURI = RC CDR_ORG_ID_xxx cfOrgUnit _OrgUnit University  department link cfOrgUnit _PAddr Address type – i.e. “work” in IRIOS cfPAddr cfPAddrID = generated UUID cfAddrline1/2/3/4 cfPostCode cfCityTown cfStateOfCountry cfCountryCode cfProj_ OrgUnit cfProj_ OrgUnit Coordinator Applicant * Red denotes formal CERIF semantic classification CERIF Mappings – Organisation

cfResPubl Title cfResPubl Title cfResPublID = generated UUID cfResPublDate = date published cfStartPage cfEndPage cfTotalPages = calculated from start/end page cfISBN cfResPubl Abstr cfResPubl Abstr cfProj_ ResPubl cfProj_ ResPubl Originator – i.e. publication originates from grant X cfResPubl _Class Publication – e.g. “Journal of Computing” Publisher – e.g. “McGraw-Hill” Publication type – e.g. “book” cfPers_ ResPubl cfPers_ ResPubl Author – i.e. person X is author of publication Y * Red denotes formal CERIF semantic classification CERIF Mappings – Publication

On import into IRIOS, UUIDs auto- generated for cfProj, cfOrgUnit, cfPers and cfResPubl base entities Also generated UUID for 2 nd level cfPAddr entity (to denote university address via cfOrgUnit_PAddr) Didn’t use UUIDs in semantic layer –Adopted CRISpool naming standards UUIDs

Used formal CERIF semantics where possible: –cfOrgUnit_Class – org type is “University” –cfOrgUnit_OrgUnit – department is “Part” of institute –cfProj_OrgUnit – “Coordinator” and “Applicant” –cfProj_Pers – “Principal Investigator” –cfPers_ResPubl – “Author” –cfProj_ResPubl – “Originator” Formal CERIF Classifications

Formal semantics didn’t fully map to job functions or titles so used custom class schemes Custom CERIF Classifications

No formal semantics for: –Grant status/type/scheme/stage status –Personal titles –Physical address type (e.g. “work”) –Project funding type (e.g. “amount applied for”, “amount awarded”) –Publication/publisher/publication type... so used custom classification schemes Custom CERIF Classifications

Wasn’t anywhere to store grant reference or CDR person/org ID so used in... –cfProj for grant ref –cfPers for person ID –cfOrgUnit for org ID Used cfProj_Fund to denote grant value –Used RC grant reference as –Didn’t use base cfFunding Points to Note

In semantic layer, used cfClassScheme naming standards as defined in CRISpool: –Where formal semantic exists – class_scheme_cerif_... –Where formal semantic didn’t exist/fit – –class_scheme_... Points to Note
