What AFL is: AFL is the highest-level professional competition in the sport of Australian rules football. CONTENTS

Positions: In AFL there is 18 different positions. 6 backline, 6 forward 6 midfielders. CONTENTS

Some of the gear: You will need football boots, football socks, football shorts and a football jumper that has a number on the back. CONTENTS

Teams The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over 5 teams in states in Australia although 10 are based in Victoria. Each team usually has a squad of 40+ players and usually based on the better players getting more games. There is also a substitute that is activated when a player is injured on game day/night. Umpires -There is 3 field umpires that are in charge of on field calls. -2 goal umpires at each end in charge of signally if it’s a goal or point. - 4 boundary umpires in charge of the boundary throw ins. -Emergency umpire in case an umpire gets injured. -Interchange stewards make sure that there are no more then 18 players on the field for both teams. Aim of the game The primary aim of the game is to score goals by kicking the ball between the middle two posts of the opposing goal. The winner is the team with the higher total score at the end of the fourth quarter. Unless in a special chance you both score the same getting a draw.

Goal Posts 4 goal posts, if you kick the ball in between the smaller ones, it is a point, if it’s in the big ones, it is a goal CONTENTS
