WE WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE THE STUDENTS ABOUT OUR PROJECT WHICH DEALS WITH FAMILY OF STARS & THEIR COLOURS.
3
SOLAR SYSTEM
4
FAMILY OF STARS. THE BRIGHTEST STAR: »SIRIUS some times called the DOG STAR. THE NEAREST STAR: PROXIMA CENTAURI which is 4.3 light years away.
5
COLOURS OF THE STARS Red, brilliant white or bluish. Our Sun is a YELLOW STAR. MILKY WAY: solar system is a only a tiny part of a GALAXY called MILKY WAY. It consists of more than 110 billion stars.
6
GALAXY: The collection of billions of stars is known as galaxy.
7
REASON FOR DIFFERENT COLOURS: Stars shine with different colours because some are hotter than others.Sun’s surface is about 6000°c. Red stars are cooler & blue- white are hotter at about 10,000ºc or more.
8
BIRTH OF STARS: 15 billions years ago there was a cosmic mass. It was made up of hot & dense matter. A great explosion shattered the cosmic mass into countlessly pieces. This explosion is known as ‘BIG BANG’. There are about 5780 stars that can be seen by eye without a TELESCOPE.About 2500 are visible from one palace on the earth at any one time.
9
A LIGHT YEAR LIGHT YEAR is the distance, light travels in one year at a speed of 186,282 miles (299,792kms) per second.
