What is the EYFS? It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.) is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year.
4
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are: 1. Literacy; 2. Mathematics; 3. Understanding the world 4. Expressive arts and design. Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are: 1. Communication and language 2. Physical development 3. Personal, social and emotional development. Your child will be learning skills and devleoping knowledge through 7 areas of learning and development.
5
How you can find out how your child is getting on? Your child will have their own learning diary to show their progress. These will be available for parents to both contribute to and enjoy looking through. Each child in reception will have a ‘key person’. This is to help your child become settled into Brentry Primary school, and help with the continuity of sending and receiving information. Brunel class has a parent communication board where class information is easily accessible for parents. Brunel class have their own page on the website.
6
Reading Books Children will start off with a sharing book. After half term your child will bring home a reading book to help them start learn how to read. You will be given a diary to record comments in, when you share/read a book with your child. Children will start to be given key words in their reading diary. These will need to be practised at home to help your child in their development. At Brentry Primary school we teach phonics through read write inc.
