ICC Background The ICC is a multi-modal east-west highway that connects I-270/I-370 and I-95/US 1 corridors within central and eastern Montgomery County and northwestern Prince George's County The new east-west highway will cover approximately 18.8 miles, and will include the construction of numerous new highway interchanges and bridges. The ICC will be a state-of-the-art, toll operated, multi- modal roadway with limited points of access. The ICC project team consists of US Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Transportation, and the Maryland Transportation Authority.

ICC’s Purpose Increase community mobility and safety Facilitate the movement of goods and people to and from economic centers Provide cost-effective transportation infrastructure to serve existing and future development patterns reflecting local land use planning objectives Help restore the natural, human and cultural environments from past development impacts in the project area Advance homeland security by providing additional mobility

ICC Contracts The ICC was split into 5 contracts consisting of contract A to contract E. The 5 contracts include 8 full interchanges, 1 partial interchange (entrance only), and 1 intersection. The sequence of construction will be Contract A – C – B – D/E Contract A, started construction in 2007 and Contract B and C followed after. As of November 2011, Contracts A-C opened to traffic. Contract D/E of the ICC is expected to begin construction mid 2012 and is expected to be complete by late 2013/early 2014.

ICC Operations and Tolling The ICC is Maryland’s first all- electronic, variably priced toll facility (no toll booths) Toll prices are increased during peak periods and lower during off-peak periods For user’s without E-Zpass a photo of vehicle's license plate will be taken and a statement will be mailed to the registered owner's address for the amount of the toll plus a service charge
