Latin became the language of the church Romance languages were derived from Latin French, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian all have Latin roots Many words we use today in English have Latin origins.

One of the most enduring legacies of Rome is its religious influence. St. Augustine said that he didn’t care if Rome fell because “the kingdom of heaven was eternal. “ Although Rome falls, Christianity remains and will be the single greatest unifier in all of Europe
